WESTFIELD - Mr. Thomas Lee Inman, 76, of Westfield, passed away Saturday evening, Nov. 22, 2003, at Northern Surry Hospital of Mount Airy. He was born July 10, 1927, in Stokes County, to William Lee Inman and Daisy Pruitt Inman. He was a retired farmer, a charter member of Francisco Volunteer Fire Department and a longtime member of Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Roucha Wright Inman of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Harry Williams of Goode, Va., and Jeanette and Daryl Spencer of Westfield; five granddaughters, Cristi and Stacy Whitaker, Angela and Marty Fulk, Kimberly Mabe Turbyfill, Leslie Spencer Collins and Jennifer and Brad Rakes; a stepgrandson, Robert Williams; four great-grandchildren, Megan Fulk, Jacob Fulk, Devin Collins and Levi Collins; five sisters, Ann Tedder of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Louise King of Dodson, Geneva White of Pilot Mountain, Ruby and Clyde Cole of Westfield and Diane Lineback of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Mary Inman of Bassett, Va. Mr. Inman was preceded in death by his parents, William Lee and Daisy Pruitt Inman; four brothers, Richard Inman, Jesse Inman, Harvey Inman and Claude Junior Inman; a stepgrandson, Jeff Williams and a grandson-in-law, Rocky Turbyfill. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Rickey Rogers, Elder David C. Edwards and Elder J.H. Keaton. Interment will follow in the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 this evening, Nov. 24, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. A special thank you goes out to the doctors and nurses in the Intensive Care Unit at Northern Surry Hospital of Surry County, Mount Airy. The Inman family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain.

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Roger Winfree Inman Jr., 84, of 224 Country Club Road, husband of Verna Belt Inman, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2005, at his home. Mr. Inman was born June 15, 1920, in Petersburg, Va., to the late Roger Winfree Inman Sr. and Eva Davis Inman. Mr. Inman was a 1941 graduate of Elon College. Mr. Inman was awarded two Purple Hearts while serving in the 24th Infantry Division in Italy during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a member of the VFW Post 2019 of Mount Airy. He was a charter member of the Mount Airy Rotary Club and the Mount Airy Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Surry Shrine Club and the Mount Airy Country Club. Mr. Inman retired after 34 years in the banking industry. During his tenure, he served as cashier and director of The First National Bank and was vice president of the North Carolina National Bank, now Bank of America. Mr. Inman was a member and past deacon and treasurer of First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Verna Belt Inman of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jean Inman Williams of Matthews and Barbara and David Bailey of Sanford; two grandsons, Stephen Bailey of Chapel Hill and Matthew Bailey of Sanford; and a sister, Jane Inman Burnett of Bradenton, Fla. In addition to his parents, Mr. Inman was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Williams. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Oakdale Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Tom Bagnal and the Rev. John Foy. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy and other times at the Inman home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Surry County, 1326 N. Main St., Mount Airy, NC 27030.

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. James Rayford "Ray" Gwyn, 74, the loving husband of Mrs. Virginia "Jenny" Gwyn, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2003, at his home. Mr. Gwyn was born in Surry County on April 23, 1928, to Charlie William and Esther Simmons Gwyn. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, was retired from Insteel Industries and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. He served our country during the Korean conflict in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his loving wife, Mrs. Jenny Gwyn of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Mike Mauldin of White Plains, Laura and Lee Currier of Cookeville, Tenn., and Julie and Scott Barwick of Kernersville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian and Pam Gwyn of Pilot Mountain and Alan Gwyn of Mount Airy; grandchildren Neil Fleming, Wendy Fleming, Whitney Gwyn, Lindsay Gwyn, Josh Gwyn, Matthew Gwyn, Erin Currier, Blake Currier, Corbin Barwick and Courtney Barwick; stepgrandchildren Chris Mauldin and Kendra Durham; great-grandchildren Kylie Fleming and Mackenzie Fleming; step-great-grandchildren Carson Mauldin and Cole Mauldin; sisters Mary Cooke and Callie Lathian; and brother and sisters-in-law Floyd and Betty Gwyn and Lib Gwyn. MOUNT AIRY - Mrs. Cornelia Alice Hiatt Johnson, 88, formerly of 2144 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, the widow of Howard William Johnson, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Johnson was born March 25, 1916, in Surry County to the late Wilford and Effie Ann Simmons Hiatt. She was retired from Spencer’s Inc. and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Mildred Johnson of Pilot Mountain, Bobby and Esther Johnson, Clifford and Georgia Johnson and Larry and Linda Johnson, all of Mount Airy; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella and Clyde Gammons and Myrtle and Bill Inman, all of Mount Airy; and a special friend, Grady Kirkman of Greensboro. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Johnson and Charles Johnson; two sisters, Coradella Hiatt and Lillie Mozelle Leftwich; and a brother, Lester "Leck" Lafayette Hiatt. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The service will be conducted by Bishop C. MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Lester "Leck" Lafayette Hiatt, 83, the husband of the late Ruth Ann Willard Hiatt, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Surry Community Nursing Center. Mr. Hiatt was born April 8, 1919, in Surry County to the late Wilford and Effie Ann Simmons Hiatt. He was a successful farming producer, a retiree of North Carolina Granite Corp., having served 27 years in varied capacities, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include five daughters and two sons-in-law, Glenda and Richard A. Simmons, Lena and Larry Bruner, Wanda Faye Atkins, Mary Ruth "Myrt" Hiatt and Melba Etta Nunn, all of Mount Airy; 12 grandchildren and spouses, Audie G. and Mary Faye Simmons, Audrey S. and Stan Watson, Angela S. and Mark Collins, Teresa N. and Mitch Brannock, Tina B. and Jimmy Howlett and Travis and Misty Bruner, all of Mount Airy, Greg Nunn of Winston-Salem, Chuck and Renee Nunn of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mark and Jennifer Nunn of Clemmons, Michael and Glenda Nunn, and Todd and Tammy Mosley, all of Pilot Mountain, and Rodney and Rene Mosley of Westfield; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Cornelia Alice Johnson, Mary Ella and Clyde Gammons and Myrtle L. and Clarence "Bill" Inman, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.
