Kenneth Gray "Ken" Speas, 69, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 7, 2003 at his home. Ken was born in Forsyth Co., NC on Feb 17, 1934, son of the late Everett Eugene and Maude Leila Kapp Speas. He lived in Forsyth Co all his life. He attended Forsyth County Schools and was a graduate of Rural Hall High School. He was a well-known produce farmer and his friends were many. He was a friend to all who needed him and was truly a servant to his fellowman. Surviving are his wife, Mickie Ashburn Speas of the home; two daughters, Sharon Speas and husband David Petree of Greensboro and Cindy Moore and husband Myron of Charlotte; a son, Kenny Speas and wife Faye of Pinnacle; two stepdaughters, Melissa Kiger and husband Vernon of Rural Hall and Teresa Everhart and husband Terry of King; three grandchildren, Neil Speas, Christopher Kiger and Spencer Everhart; a great=-granddaughter, Brianna Speas; two sisters, Ruth Robertson and Jane Hutchens; and two brothers, Lavern Speas and Daniel Speas, all of Rural Hall, NC. Ken was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Joyce and Viola Rowe; and two brothers, Gene Speas and Vestal Speas. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at Mizpah Moravian Church in rural Hall by the Rev. William H. McElveen. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The Speas family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening, Nov. 8 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Memorial Donations should be directed to Mizpah Moravian Church Graveyard Fund, 3195 Mizpah Church road, rural Hall, NC 27045

Mr. Chilton was born in Surry Co., NC Oct 3, 1922 to Nathan Manuel and Laura Love Chilton. He was a retired farmer, served on the Board of Directors of Surry/Yadkin Electric Corporation, was a WWII veteran with US Army serving in Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member and former Deacon of Woodville Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mavis Inman Chilton, of the home; one daughter, and son-in-law, Linda and Jack Gill of Dublin, VA; one son and daughter-in-law, Mitch and Kristina Chilton of Hilton Head, SC; two granddaughters, Laura and Christine Gill and two grandsons, Conner and Spencer Chilton. MOUNT AIRY - Mrs. Ruth Emily Smith Short Inman, 77, of 2727 Westfield Road, the wife of Mr. Gaither Inman, passed away at her home Thursday morning, July 25, 2002. Mrs. Inman was born June 8, 1925, in Surry County to Emmett and Esther Smith Smith. She was retired from the hospital pharmacy, had worked at Northern Hospital of Surry County, was a Red Cross volunteer and a member of the Mount Airy Friends Meeting. Surviving are her husband, Gaither Inman of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Michael Nimmons of Bellvue, Wash.; two stepdaughters and a son-in-law, Gwen Lynch of Bethania and Carol and Jimmy Christian of Westfield; a stepson and daughter-in-law, David and Paulette Inman of Westfield; four grandchildren, Benjamin Nimmons, Tara Lynch, Pamela Brown and Antionette Smith; a great-grandchild, Heath Brown; a sister, Francis Kiser of Winston-Salem; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert "Bob" and Nora Smith of Mount Airy. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Wayne Johnson, Pastor Willie Frye and Pastor Vladimir Strejcek. Burial will follow at Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Moody Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Airy Friends Meeting, 109 W. Wilson St., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
