MOUNT AIRY - Mrs. Sarah Alice Stuart Shelton, 72, of 109 Mythology Lane, passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Shelton was born Dec. 27, 1933, in Caldwell County, to William Ernest Stuart Sr. and Myrtle Estelle Padgette Stuart. Mrs. Shelton was retired from B and J Hosiery and Kentucky Derby Hosiery. She was a faithful member of Indian Grove Baptist Church, where she served as custodian. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lesa and David Fallin; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael W. and Monica Hedrick; five stepchildren and their spouses, Bradford Gray and Dianne Long, Renee Richardson, Mary Hackett and special friend, Ronnie, Penny and Jerry Roopchan, and Tammy and David Jolley; seven grandchildren and spouses, Michael Lee Smith Jr., Sidney Gray Smith, Sarah Fallin, Christopher J. and Josie Hedrick, Robert and Angela Hedrick, Jonathan Hedrick, and Jennifer Hedrick; a great granddaughter, Gennavi Alice Hedrick; three stepgrandchildren, Danielle Russell, Jerrold Russell, and Cristi Smith; 14 other stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Sue Bachetta and Rachel Cook; a brother, Glenn Marshall Stuart; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Annie and Ed Belton, Virginia Parabelle Hiatt, Ruth Mills, Jean and Harvey Arrington, Betty and Mickey Hall, Dorothy Spangler, Roy and Betty Jo Shelton, Don and Bonnie Shelton, Paul and Ethylene Shelton, Wade and Mary Shelton, Ramey and Donna Shelton, and Charles and Mac Shelton; several nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; and special friends, the Rev. Tommy and Barbara Floyd, Penny Smith, Mildred Smith, Marlene Johnson, and Virginia Howlett. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her husbands, Billy Gray Long and James Russell Shelton; two sons, Malcolm Carl Hedrick Jr. and Carl David Hedrick; two sisters, Mae Collins and Mary Powell; and two brothers, Rufus Stuart and William Ernest Stuart Jr. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at Indian Grove Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Tommy Floyd. Burial will follow in the Indian Grove Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral.
