I was inspired to research my families history following the death of my Grandmother Virgie May SIMCOX-MARSH. She was one of a very few folks that knew the Family's oral history. There had long been stories of our relation to a Cherokee princess and a direct line to Confederate President Jefferson Davis, and therefore several other U.S. presidents. Many of these things were written down, but my primary interest was not in who we were related to, but in the daily lives and struggles of these folks. In an effort to try to connect with their feelings, hopes and attitudes in the context of American history, I seek to find the missing information from those relatives who are still among us. Some of this bare fact information was written down, but I would have loved to have had the conversations with my grandparents when they were still here. Youth is wasted on the young when it serves as a closed window to our past. As a child we always want to go out and play and have not the attention span nor maturity to understand what was really being said when these family tales were being told. Thankfully there are other researchers in our family and many facts have been gathered. This is a compilation and a work in progress.
