Research begins in an old German family bible with first entry of 1823 when David Fredrick Matzke was born son of Christian Matzke. The area of family origin appears to be Saleeza,Germany at which time the European countries had different borders from the present. Record of family tree runs through six generations to present. The third generation member came to United States in an effort to escape conscription in the Kiaser's army. The main locations of family are Indianapolis, Indiana and Wilmington, North Carolina. My father, Albert Matzke also studied art in New york City and Conneticut. Part of family research was done at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, where most of my Grandfather Julius Matzke's family members are buried.
