NINTH GENERATION

284. John Campbell (1) was born about 1700. According to Silas Dobbs McCaslin of Savannah, Georgia, John Campbell, the Duke of Argyle, is said to be buried between the town of Fleming and Maysville, Kentucky. He was banished from Scotland at the time of the Presbyterian persecutions; he, being the eldest son, was the heir of the Duke, his father. Parliament, some time in the fifties --1850-62, passed a special act laying aside certain monies for the benefit of the heirs of John Walker Campbell, rightful Duke of Argyle (Martha Orchard Malott, of Bloomington, Ind., furnished this information regarding the Campbell family). [Dr. Ruby Campbell confirmed that this data is not true, and that all of the Dukes of Argyle are clearly accounted for in the records, copies of which Dr. Campbell supplied]. Of the 9 children of John and Elizabeth Campbell, 3 came to America and settled in Pennsylvania, going from there to Virginia and settling near Staunton, probably about 1744. [Danny A. McBee, January 12, 1998]. He was married to Elizabeth Walker about 1721.

285. Elizabeth Walker (1) was born in Apr 1703 in Scotland. She died about 1787. According to Si Dobbs McCaslin of Savannah, Georgia, Elizabeth was born April 1703; married John Campbell of Kirnan in Ireland. They came to America with her father. Both died in Virginia, she in 1787, at the age of 84 years. [Danny A. McBee, January 12, 1998]. Children were:

child i. Esther Campbell(1).
child ii. Mary Campbell(1).
child iii. Rachel Campbell(1).
child iv. Elizabeth Campbell(1) died young. According to Silas Dobbs McCaslin of Savannah, Georgia, Elizabeth Campbell died young. [Danny A. McBee].
child v. Jane Campbell(1).
child vi. Major John Walker Campbell(1). According to information received by me, Danny A. McBee, from Silas Dobbs McCaslin of Savannah, Georgia, John Walker Campbell married Martha Spears; they had no children but adopted and raised a nephew, John Poage Campbell. Was known as Major Campbell. [Danny A. McBee, January 12, 1998].
child vii. Elizabeth Campbell(1).
child viii. Robert Campbell(1) was born in Scotland. He died in Mason County, West Virginia. According to information received by me, Danny A. McBee, from Silas Dobbs McCaslin of Savannah, Georgia, Robert Campbell came to Augusta County prior to 1744 and purchased 350 acres of land from the patentees of Beverly Manor. He was appointed (by Governor Gooch) one of the early magistrates of Augusta; was an educated gentleman, religious and enterprising as to the public good. When an elderly man he removed to Kentucky. He with General Poage, General Huges and General Thomas, bought ten thousand acres of rich land in the Mayslick neighborhood. they finally settled in Mason County, Kentucky. The name of only one of their children is known.... [Danny A. McBee, January 12, 1998].
child ix. Henry Campbell(1) was born about 1730. According to information received from Silas Dobbs McCaslin, 212 East Liberty Street, Savannah, Georgia, 31401, Henry Campbell (born about 1730) of Augusta County, Virginia, has been well documented, and he is the father of Henry Campbell (born 1760-1770). Henry Campbell (born about 1730) is ostensibly the son of John Campbell (born about 1700), as illustrated in the chart sent to me, Danny A. McBee, by Ms. Carol Adams, 309 Windfield Circle, Charlottesville, Virginia, 22902. [Si McCaslin had originally sent the chart to Carol Adams. Danny A. McBee, January 10, 1998]. Evidence substantiates this descendancy, based upon Augusta County records confirming both the proximity and association of Henry Campbell (born about 1730) to both John
Campbell and the Walker family. Elizabeth Walker is the wife of John Campbell. [Danny A. McBee].
