214. Lorentz (Laurence)
Schweissguth(1) was born on 24
Feb 1724 in Weisbaden, Germany. He died on 12 Mar 1799 in York County, Pennsylvania.
He was buried in On his farm in Paradise Township, Pennsylvania. He was a Shoemaker.
He was a Stone mason, shoe maker, and farmer. Lorentz Schweissguth came to
America on September 16, 1751. He settled in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. He came with the Henrich Ratz family who also came in 1751.
Lorentz was an Evangelical Lutheran. He was also a shoemaker. The records
indicate that Lorentz was admitted as a citizen December 22, 1776. The church
used the Latin spelling Schweisgut. The State and Magistrate writes
Schweissguth, which is the German spelling. Thus Laurentius becomes Lorentz
our predecessor. [Danny A. McBee, June 11, 1998].
The following information was taken from America Online from the records sent
by
Charles M. Call, Jr. to me, Danny A. McBee:
Notes from Swicegood record: Will made 3/12-1799. German came to America on
ship
Edinburgh (9/16/1751) James Russel, Master, see Book I Straasburg, Page 461 of
the book "30,000 Immigrants". All the Clements of Salisbury, N. C.
are descendants. All the Swicegoods are related or descended from Lorentz.
[Danny A. McBee, December 19, 1998].
Charles Swisegood, Adair, Illinois, states that Lorentz Schweissguth, born in
Wiesbaden, Ober-Hessen, now Germany, on February 10, 1724 [I, Danny A. McBee,
have a date of birth of February 24, 1924], baptized in Evangelical Church February
24, 1724. Married in Wiesbaden/Bierstadt (now same city) to Elisabetha Catherina
Weyer, daughter of Barnhardt Weyer. Elisabetha was born 1728 in Bierstadt. At
the time Bierstadt was 2 (not sure what Kilometers, miles, etc.) from Wiesbaden.
It is now a district of Wiesbaden. Charles also mentions that another son,
Andreas [Andrew Swaisgood] was born in 1755 and later moved westward straight
across into Ohio and beyond. I, Danny A. McBee, did not have a son named Andreas
[Andrew] listed in my genealogy of the Schweissguth family. [Danny A. McBee,
November 13, 1999].
