EIGHTH GENERATION

136. William Reuben Briant (1) was born on 17 Jun 1741 in Patrick County (Possibly Henry County), Virginia. He died about 1834 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was buried in Buzzard Roost, Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was a Farmer. William was in the Revolutionary War. He was also lame. He was Scotch-Irish
according to tradition. He lived in Buzzard's Roost [Pacolet], South
Carolina. He had eleven children [twelve according to the census]. William
Briant was probably a third generation American. William Briant was in the
Battle of Cowpens and also at Morganton. The Tories would carry off William
Briant for several days at a time to their camps as he was lame. [Per Nancy
Briant Brown Interview in 1903].[Danny A. McBee, March 3, 1998].

William Briant was listed in the 1790 Census of Spartanburg County, South Carolina:
Briant, William
4 white males under 16 yrs
2 white males over 16 yrs
7 white females

According to my cousin Glenna Kinard, the Briants migrated to South Carolina about
1768-1774. William Briant was believed to be a third generation American. His
place of residence, Buzzard's Roost (Pacolet), S. C.; later called Bryantville and later
called Pacolet. [Danny A. McBee, March 7, 1998].

(See Pinckney District Chapter S. C., Genealogical Society Quarterly Summer 1992; Volume 16, No. 2, page 551. (This is the only source I know of that names Reubin Bryant's father William Bryant - - note by the above Helen Smith).

1826 - Spartanburg County Deed Book V; pg. 320: Peter Patterson to William Briant 100 acres in Pacolet; not recorded until the year 1834 (the possible year of William Bryant's death).

On researcher said William Briant had a son named Ishom, born 1781 in Spartanburg. The same person said there was a daughter, unknown name, born 1783, who married James Dillard. (All of the above information copied from material sent to me, Danny A. McBee, by my cousin Glenna Kinard). [Danny A. McBee, March 7, 1998]. He was married to Sarah (Sallie) Tolleson about 1765 in possibly Virginia.

137. Sarah (Sallie) Tolleson (1) was born about 1742. She died about 1836 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Sarah Tolleson was possibly William Briant's second wife. This theory is
discussed by Dr. J. Bland Pope. He, Dr. Pope, also suggest that Reuben Briant
Sr. may not have been the son of Sallie Tolleson. [Danny A. McBee, March 4,
1998].

Sarah "Sallie" Tolleson died at her son Reuben's home according to my cousin
Glenna Kinard. [Danny A. McBee, March 7, 1998]. Children were:
