192. Thomas Deadman II
(1) was born about 1690 in Patapsco,
Baltimore County, Maryland. The Dedman-Wasson bible record starts with the fact
that our Edmund was the
son of Thomas Deadman and Sarah, his wife, whose name, (a source states), was
Edmund. Other than two baptismal entries for their children in St Paul's,
Baltimore there are not many facts recorded. It appears that they came to
Rowan County NC around 1765, (some Griffins may have come along too), and
N.C. records referring to a Thomas Deadman may have been for him.
THOMAS DEADMAN-THEORY
To be sure, Thomas Deadman and Sarah Edmund never came to
Davie County, N.C., about 1690. They were the parents of
Edmund, who came to the Forks of the Yadkin Rivers in 1765.
There is absolutely, no documentary evidence that Thomas
(1695?-1760?) and Sarah Edmund (1700?-1770?) came to the
Forks of the Yadkin. I think they stayed in Maryland, as did
their son Kerby. And I think this about Thomas coming out of
Germany and marrying Sarah in England and then coming to
these parts is also a story without any foundation. I think
the Thomas mentioned above (Thomas II) was the son of Thomas
Deadman I (1650?-1710?), who was transported to Maryland in
1674 by Captain Benony Eaton aboard the Good Ship Charles of
London (Maryland Hall of Records, Liber 18, Folio 84).
Thomas II would marry Sarah Edmund about 1720 in Baltimore,
Maryland. To them would be born 5 children (see Thomas II,
Deadman, Land Between the Yadkins). One of his children was
Thomas Deadman III, (1722?-1771?), and it was he who came to
the Forks of the Yadkins with his brothers Edmund and
Ezekial. His sister, Ebarilla, came with them and is
mentioned in at least one record. His other child, Kerby,
did not come to North Carolina. According to an oral
tradition passed down from generation to generation by the
Cleveland County, N.C., Dedmons (whose lineage is from Mark
Deadmon (1758-1839), the son of Thomas III and Sarah Griffin
Deadman) there were 56 people in the group Edmund brought
south in 1765. This may be true; it may be that the number
is too high. We probably will never know.
(Note: On 9 May 1765, Edmund Deadman purchased 200 acres on
Elisha Creek from David Jones for 15 pounds (Rowan County,
N.C. Deed Book, Vol. 6, page 240)).

The Deadman family burial ground is on the east side of a
hill above a branch between Cherry Hill Church and Augusta
Seminary at Davie County point between North and South Yadkin
rivers. It is on Road #1819, the first paved road after
crossing the South Yadkin River bridge. Go to first wood
bridge (over Reedy Creek). The cemetary is on the left side.
It is apparently on the original land grant. There are
some unmarked graves, some marked but unlettered and some of
white marble showing it was a family of means.

The following was listed in the Dedman Connection, Volume 2, 1995 and submitted
by Barbara Schultz. The statement was found in the Baltimore County Families,
1659-1759, Pg. 163: Deadman, Thomas, servant with 4 years to serve, in inv.

This was probably Thomas III's father as Thomas III was only 9 years old. [Danny

1720 in Baltimore County, Maryland.

Edmon Dedmon is listed as head of household in the 1810 Rowan County, North Carolina
Census. His son William Dedmon is listed in the house right beside him. [Danny

iii.
Kirby (Kerby) Deadman(1) was born on
5 Mar 1728 in Baltimore County, Baltimore, Maryland. He was baptized on 5 May
1728 in St Pauls Parish, Baltimore, Maryland. Kirby Deadman was a twin to Ebarilla
according to Baltimore County Marriages. Kirby was listed as "Curl"
Deadman, age 16 in March 1745, was bound to Charles Robinson in November 1744
(34:385; 133, 46), St. Pauls Parish Register, Baltimore County Families, 1659-1759.
[Danny A. McBee].
iv.
Ebarilla Deadman(1) was born on 5 Mar
1728 in Baltimore County, Baltimore, Maryland. She was baptized on 17 May 1730
in St. Paul's, Baltimore, Maryland. Rowan County NC Will Book A p.248 "Abarilla
witness to a will of John Barnet Stagner October 10, 1775".
Information in the IGI file in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
lists the baptism date of Ebarilla Deadman as May 18, 1730 at the St. Paul's
Protestant Episcopal Church in Baltimore County, Baltimore, Maryland. [We
know by the witnessing of this will that Ebarilla made the journey with her
brothers from Maryland to the Carolinas. Danny A. McBee, April 12, 1998].
Ebarilla Deadman was a twin to Kirby Deadman. [Danny A. McBee].
v. Ezekial
Deadman(1). Listing him as a son is
an assumption which has been put forward by one
researcher. He, or someone by that name, is in the Rowan County NC Census
of 1790 in the Salisbury District. There is a Mack Dedman, Militia, 3029,
Salisbury District listed in the Roster of North Carolina Soldiers in the
American Revolution, page 374. I, Danny A. McBee, wonder if this was either
Ezekial or possible one of his sons. Ezekial Dedmon is show in the 1790
census with his wife, one daughter, and one son under sixteen. [Danny A.
McBee, October 12, 1992].
