184. Richard Greene
(1) was born about 1740 in Hunterdon
County, New Jersey. He died about 1818 in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Richard
Greene and many of his family members moved to Watauga County in 1790.
In that year, Richard organized the Three Forks Church near Boone, N. C.
Tradition says that pioneer Daniel Boone's family belonged to this church.
Richard and Eleanor Sullivan Greene had eight children. Until he moved to
Watauga Co., N. C. in 1790, Richard belonged to the Jersey Church in Davidson
County, N. C. (Danny A. McBee).
This is where my Greene genealogy and that of other Greene genealogists begin
to differ. I, Danny A. McBee, have always been told and read (History of the
Toe River Valley by Dr. Lloyd Bailey) that my John "Mocassin" Greene
was the son of Richard and Eleanor Sullivan Greene. I list my John as a son
where others list John who was married to Elizabeth Coffey as the son of Richard
Greene [my John could have been married twice or the other Greene genealogists
could be wrong]. No doubt if my John isn't the correct John Greene we still
fall into this Greene family as they were all in the same area. [Danny A. McBee,
March 21, 1998]. He was married to Eleanor Sullivan about 1763.
185. Eleanor Sullivan(1) died
before 1817 in near Blowing Rock, North Carolina. According to John O. Hawkins,
JHawk11321@aol.com., in an e-mail dated February 17, 1998, entitled Jeremiah
Greene Family, Richard, born 1740/42, Hunterdon Co., NJ, married Eleanor (Sullivan?)
probably in the mid 1760s: Richard died after 1817 when he divided his land
among his children. Eleanor does not sign a dower release so she had probably
died previously. [Danny A. McBee, April 4, 1998]. Children were:
i.
Eleanor Greene(1) was born about 1776.
She died about 1825.
ii.
Shadrack Greene(1) was born about 1760.
He died after 1846 in Cleveland County, North Carolina.
92 iii.
John [Moccasin John] Green.
iv.
Amos Greene(1) was born between 1764
and 1778 in Rowan County, North Carolina. He died on 6 Jan 1857 in Ballground,
Cherokee County, Georgia. Amos settled in Rutherford County, North Carolina
and later moved and died in
Cherokee County, Georgia. (Danny A. McBee).

in Rowan County, North Carolina. He died about 1840 in Hancock County, Tennessee.

Richard Greene Jr.(1) was born about
1781 in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. He died about 1830.
vii.

1782 in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. He died about 1830. Benjamin and Joseph
Greene were twins. [Danny A. McBee, February 22, 1999].

Joseph Greene(1) was born about
1782. He died about 1861. According to John O. Hawkins, Joseph Greene and Benjamin
Greene were twins. [Danny A. McBee, April 4, 1998].
ix.
Isaac "Mountain" Greene(1)
was born about 1787 in Rowan County, North Carolina. According to John O. Hawkins,
JHawk11321@aol.com., in an e-mail, dated February 17, 1998, entitled Jeremiah
Greene Family, "tradition says Isaac and Susan Greene had eight children;
however, the gaps between children 3 and 4 could mean some children have not
been identified or some died young. I am not the last word on the Green family
but this is what I have". John Hawkins. [Danny A. McBee, April 4, 1998].
