FOURTH GENERATION

14. William Ausbern Todd (1) was born on 17 Jan 1853 in Yadkinville, Yadkin County, North Carolina. He died on 13 Mar 1934 in Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gaston County, Gastonia, North Carolina. He was buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Gastonia, N. C.. He was a Farmer. William A. Todd has a new grave marker and an old grave marker. The old grave
marker has a date of birth as January 17, 1853, whereas the new grave marker
has a date of January 17, 1850. His date of death is correct on both stones.
William Todd's middle name was probably Anderson (as my grandmother named one
of her children Anderson). However, William A. Todd's nickname was Anze or
Ance.

William A. Todd, age 16, is listed as a child in the household of his father Doss Todd,
age 50, in the 1870 Yadkin County, North Carolina Census, page 743. [Danny A.
McBee, August 25, 1998].

William A. Todd is listed in the 1920 Gaston County, North Carolina Census,
age 66, wife Lucinda, 62, son-in-law, Walter C. Lineberger, 26, daughter, Rosa
C., 20, granddaughter Juanita.

The following obituary was in the March 13, 1934, Tuesday, Gastonia Gazette:
WILLIAM A. TODD. William A. Todd, 84 year old Gastonian was found dead in bed
at his home in West Gastonia near Grayson's curve about 6:30 o'clock this
morning by his wife, Mrs. Lucinda Todd. Physicians thought that a sudden
attack of heart trouble, which must have stricken him while he slept, was the
direct cause of death. Members of his family said he had been in good health
and last night appeared to be in good spirits, eating a hearty meal before he
retired. He leaves, besides his widow, five children, namely: Mrs. Ellen
Dedmond, Gastonia, route three, Jim Todd, East Sixth Avenue, R. L. Todd, of
Kings Mountain; Gastonia, Tony Todd, of the Smyre Mill community, and Mrs.
Sally Queen, of Taylor, S. C. Also surviving are four brothers, all of Yadkin
County, namely: C. K., Neely, I. C. and Sugg Todd. The deceased, although a
native of Yadkin county, had lived in Gaston County since 1896 and was well
known to many friends. He was for many years a farmer, but declining health
had prevented him from active farming in late years. Funeral arrangements
were incomplete today, but it was known that services would be held in
Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church, to be conducted by the pastor, Rev.
Haskell Dulin, probably some time tomorrow, and that interment would be in
Hollywood Cemetery. (Danny A. McBee).

William Todd, age 26, is listed as head of household in the 1880 Yadkin County,
North Carolina Census with wife Lucinda C., 24, and daughter Mary L., 1. [Danny
A. McBee, August 17, 1998]. He was married to Lucinda C. Miller on 6 Jul 1876 in Yadkin Co., old Surry Co. North Carolina.

15. Lucinda C. Miller(1) was born on 29 Aug 1852 in Yadkin County, Yadkinville, N.C.. She died on 7 Mar 1950 in Mecklenburg County, Charlotte, N.C.. I, Danny A. McBee, found Lucinda Miller in the 1860 Yadkin County, North Carolina Census living in the household of her father Frederick Miller and her mother Lucinda Shore Miller. Lucinda Miller was 5 years old in this census. Lucinda does not show up in the 1870 Yadkin County, North Carolina Census living in the household of her father Frederick Miller. I have not been able to locate Lucinda in the 1870 Yadkin County, North Carolina Census yet. I know that she did not marry William A. Todd until 1876 when she was approximately 24 years old. She would have been 18 years old in the 1870 Yadkin County, North Carolina Census. Lucinda C. Miller, age 15, and her brother James C. Miller, age 17, are listed in the household of Jos. McNight (McKnight), 67, with his wife Sarah, age 63, and Joseph M., 14, in the 1870 Yadkin County, North Carolina Census. [Danny A. McBee, August 23, 1998].

Lucinda Miller Todd, wife of William A. Todd, is listed in the 1927-28
Gastonia City Directory as living at 612 South Columbia Street, Gastonia,
North Carolina. The 1900 Gaston County, North Carolina Census lists Lucinda's
birth date as August 1856. Lucinda, 54, and William A. Todd, 56, show up in
the 1910 Crowders Mountain, Gaston County Census with children Tony R., 21,
and Rosa, 15. They have been married 33 years. Six of ten children surviving.
Lucinda is listed in 1880 Yadkin Co. Census as 24 years old. [Danny A. McBee,
June 11, 1997].

The following obituary was taken from the Gastonia Gazette, March 8, 1998:

3:30 p.m. Thursday at Ward Funeral Home, Gastonia. Burial will be in

the funeral home.

Mrs. J. C. (Marvelle Todd) Baker told me on the phone tonight, February 4,
1996 that her father, Tony Todd, could do chin ups on a tree limb in her back
yard at the age of 90. Tony also loved to eat Marvelle's peach pie.
child v. Sally Todd(1) was born on 22 Jul 1890 in Yadkinville, Yadkin County, North Carolina. She died on 15 Jan 1967. The following is the obituary of Mrs. Grover C. Queen. I found this in my

Grover C. Queen was born July 22, 1890 in Yadkin County. Her parents were the

Street, Gastonia, North Carolina, 28056. 704-865-6715: The Hollywood
Cemetery is located directly behind the main body of town in Gastonia,
North Carolina. It is on the same road as Witten Supply Company).
child vi. Rosa (Rosie) Camilla Todd(1) was born on 6 Feb 1898. She died on 19 Jul 1929. She was buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Gastonia, N. C.. Rosa Todd is listed as Rosey Todd, born February 1895, in the 1900 Gaston
County, North Carolina Census. Rosie Todd was a great seamstress. She could
look at a pattern and make a dress from it. She died from an infection of a
boil in her nose. This information was given to me by my aunt Agnes Dedmond
Falls. It was corroborated by my cousin Martha Ethel Todd May. [Danny A. McBee, March 16, 2000].
child vii. Nellie Todd (Private).
