Notes for Pierse McCan: Elected Sinn Fein Member for Tipperary in the 1918 Election which produced the First Dail. He had been arrested on a trumped-up charge and held in Gloucester Gaol without trial when he was elected. He died as a prisoner in the Influenza Epidemic of 1919, and his body was brought home to be given a huge funeral to Dualla. Baptised Francis Mary Pierse Alphonsus at the Church of St. Anne and St. John, Rathgarogue, Co. Wexford. Sponsors Patrick J. Power and Julia M. McCan
