Miller and baker at Donnybrook, Dublin, 1857-1867 (Thom's Directory). Mortgage dated Nov 11 1865 between George McCan and Frederick Hammond, Tobacco Merchant of 25 Westmoreland St.....said Hammond had lent said George McCan £525 to carry on business as a miller, still due and owing.... said George McCan in want of a further sum not exceeding £800... mill, house, furniture, plate etc. assigned as security for repayment. (1865-34-43). Drowned in the Ganges, 1868, circumstances unknown. (Note at Ballyowen).
1835-13-201. Deed dated 2 July 1835 James Byrne of Townsend St. assignee of the debts of Jeremiah Falvey insolvent grants etc. to George McCan of Poolbeg St.
baker in his actual possession then being house and premises new built on plot on west side of Lr. Sackville St. together with plot at back of 79 Abbey St. reciting lease dated 13 Aug. 1820.
1835-13-251. Deed dated 25 July 1835 George McCan of Poolbeg St. baker to sell to Thos. Bradley of Ruby Lodge plot of ground no. 18 on Grand Map of W.S. Comm. reciting lease of 30 Aug. 1821 Thos. Mortgage dated 10 Nov. 1865 between George Michael Andrew McCan and Wm. Hammond of 25 Westmoreland St. Tobacco Merchant reciting lease dated 30 June 1864 from Robert Bramston Smith for plot of land at Donnybrook for 31 years at £70 p.a. ..sd. W.H. had lent £525 to George McCan to carry on a business as miller ... a further sum not exceeding £800 to be secured by mill etc.

James Joseph Byrne of 16 Lr. Mount St. in the City of Dublin, flour miller trading as George McCann & Co. to surrender on Friday 15th April and Friday 29th April

Re James J. Byrne. The bankrupt was a civil engineer and flour miller. The meeting was for surrender and proof of debts. Mr Journeaux was appointed. Mr Batt on behalf of Mr Oldham briefly examined the bankrupt.
Apparently Byrne went bankrupt and George McCan attempted to carry on the business.
