I am searching for information about John McMahon, who married Elizabeth Moran in Ireland. A son was born to them in 1809, named James who was also born in Ireland. John and Elizabeth were natives of County Armagh, Ireland. James married Anne Patterson. Both the McMahon and Patterson families with their families to Canada, locating at Kingston, Ontario and later moving to Camden Township, Addington County, Ontario, where they owned and operated a large tract of farmland.
James and Anne (Patterson)McMahon farmed in Northumberland County, Ontario, until the year 1860 when they purchased 100 acres of land which later became part of the town of Petrolia. The family lived on this farm for several years and later purchased and moved to a large farm on the 12th Line of Moors, where they lived until taken by death. Mr. McMahon passed away in 1873, and Mrs. McMahon in 1883. They are buried in the Brooks Cemetery on the Plympton and Enniskillen town line in Lambton County.
There were nine children born from this Union, (James and Anne) all of whom are now deceased.
John and Elizabeth (Moran McMahon also had a son John born in Ireland in the year 1821. After comint Canada, John married Jane Fairburn who died, leaving two young sons. He later married Matilda Beggars who had come to Canada with her parents from County Tyrone, Ireland.
John and Matilda (Beggars) McMahon moved from their farm home in Addington County, Ontario, in 1863, to the town of Plympton Township, Lambton County, where they purchased a 150 acre farm. Mrl McMahon, with teh assistance of his family, cleared the land and erected farm buildings and became a prosperous farmer, specializing in raising shorhorn cattle and Clydesdale hores.
Mr. McMahon passed away March 18, 1893, and his wife January 29, 1901. They are buried in Brooks Cemetery on the Plympton, Enniskillen Townline.
