Now the census records are off in places as most census records are.Ann couldn't have immigrated over in 1871 as the whole family is found in the 1870 Allgany MD census records. Now as to her age more than likely the July 1840 is right. Was there two John's records would seem to indicate this but I have found nothing else to back this up except these census listings.
The other children are not found in 1900 except Elizabeth who married a William Butler and Theodore and Frederick who were in the Steubenville area in 1900 as well.Nothing is found on Sarah or Fanny.
Everything seems to point that John Thomas was in the Hocking County Ohio area in 1900.And died there as well. I am trying to find out when and where and will update as I find out. Upon further research I have found the graves of John Thomas Smith and his wife Gertrude Hashman Smith. John Thomas died in 1955 in Millfield Ohio near Chauncey in Athens County Ohio. He is buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville. Gertrude died in 1961 in Columbus Ohio and is buried beside her husband in Greenlawn Cemetery. They are found in the 1900 census for Hocling County I believe it was but will verify this. Still no luck on the graves of Theodore and Annie though I hope to find them next.
I have seen a death record for a Theodore W Smith in Jefferson Co.Ohio Steubenville area and believe this may be Theodore and Anna's son. I am trying to get the certificate to verify this.
