1917 World War I Draft card describes John as tall and slender build with grey eyes and brown hair. He worked as a cole miner for Vandalia Coal Company at Latle Creek Mine (sp?) He clamied as an exception to the draft his religious belief.

His 1942 World War II Draft card states address as Route 1, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana. He worked for Maxon Construction Co, Burns City, Martin County Indiana. Card states he is white with blue eyes and gray hair at 5' 11 1/2" with a Ruddy complexion.
