I received yours of the 15th of Sept which was a great satisfaction to me. I am still living in the old place yet. I am still a widow & still expect to remain one, though I live a lonesome life; but can go & come when I please. All of my children have left me, but two, GEORGE AND THOMAS BENTON, of which the latter is my youngest. I am getting along tolorably well, but see a good deal of trouble & I recon if I were in Texas I would soon get rich, but I have no idea of moving & consequently I expect to stay on my old place. Why do you not write? I have wrote to JOHN KING and have not got any answer. When you answer this letter, state how far you live from him and the rest. Also about BETSY PAYTON & why she did not write no more than she did. State how you are getting along. How good your country is? How healthy? How much corn & cotton you make to the acre?
Be sure to answer this letter. My children are all married but two GEORGE WASHINGTON and THOMAS BENTON. All my children that are married are doing tolorably well. My daughters are all professors in the METHODIST Church. My ELDEST SON is in that Church & all my sons-in-law are in the Methodist Church. My weight last spring was 150 lbs. Our health tolorably good now & we hope that these lines will find you & your enjoying the same blessing & if we never meet on earth, I hope we will meet in heaven - - Paradise.
I have 18 black ones. I have never divided my property much yet among my children. I want you to let JAMES & JOHN AND JOE know where I am living and then when you write to me state all about them. I remain your affectionate sister

Dear Sister - - - I now embrace this orroptunity with pleasure to Answer your very importand & interesting letter; - which I received about the first of August. be assured that it is one of the greatest satisfactions to me to hear of its being a pleasure to you to receive a letter from me.
Though I have some bad news to tell you of this time I have lost two negroes since I last wrote; one of which was about 16 years old a favorite boy for business. The other was a small Child; both worth about 1,000 dollars and died with scarlet fever. But these things cannot be helped the Lord can give and take away, and blessed be the name of the Lord. I am happy to state at present that we are well except some that have had chills they are nearly well now. This is a morning memorable; myself and nearly all of my children are together at my house and my SON RICHARD & LADY HAVE JUST BID US FAREWELL FOR THE PURPOSE OF GOING TO YOUR COUNTRY. I have just copied off the way bill from your last letter you sent me and gave it to him. My feeling on account of his departure from me your affectionate Sister will not undertake to describe. I will leave this part of my subject for you to guess at. MY SON GREENBURRY is bound to go to TEXAS. he has never received your Daughter's letter yet he says he wants you to write to him. You must direct your letters to PIKEVILLE, ALABAMA. I expect to move to your country if all of my children go. All of my children are well at present so far as I know at except JAMES SPREWELL who has quite a bad rising on his face. MY SON GEORGE married on the 27th of July since I wrote to you before he married a MISS HELEN GIBBS DAUGHTER OF JUDGE GIBBS all of Monroe, Miss, - - my BABY WHICH IS THOMAS BENTON is with me yet and single but keen to go to Texas. MY SON JOHN IS LIVING IN CHICKISAW COUNTY is doing well but says he is going to Texas so I expect nearly all of my children will soon leave this country. I think hard of BROTHER JAMES AND THE REST OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS because they have never wrote me the scratch of a pen. As to you Sister I give you great credit for your kindness in writing to me & for your kind propositions as regards meeting me if I should go by water. I too thank you much for Vast Intelligence that you have already conveyed to me about your Country; which I consider to be True and at the same time flattering. it seems from the way you discribe your Country it surely must be a much better country and easier to get along in than this. You must excuse this letter for my mind is so interrupted that I cannot write to you as I wish; Though Sister you and Mr. Cropper must be sure to continue writing to me about yourselves and your Country. I am sorry I could not answer your kind and important letter before now. my SON THOMAS wants you to state in your next about the girls of Texas as he says he would like when he gets there to marry a rich one; fine and intelligent. I would like to write you all the importance that I culd but must come to a close by saying write soon and accept for yourself and family my best wishes in prosperity and if we never meet no more on earth I hope we will all mead in heaven! I remain your affectionate Sister
ROSANNA MC KINNEY
P. S. I happened to back this letter with your name Sister; but Excuse. Rosanna McKinny
