Notes for Jeremiah (Manaskco) Manasco:
From Mrs. B. Biggerstaff, Mrs. Vernon L. LeMaster, and Mrs. B. W. Gandrud:
You will note that his name was written the way it sounded to the clerks taking data, and there is found as Manasku in Franklin County, GA in 1797, and in 1790 it is shown as Menosko in the census records. But as each man has the name of Jeremiah for his given name I am sure it is your ancestor.

LAND RECORDS:
Early land records in Anson Co. N. C. show that James "Minasco" and Jeremiah "Minasco" had land surveyed [handwritten survey] and granted the same date, in the same location 1763-4 N. C. Thus it is believed that they were brothers, and following, that John and Susanna were the parents of Jeremiah, but no proof for this assumption has been found. It is conjecture.
Note re. spelling: most of Jeremiah's records in N. C. before 1790 were "Menasco" "Mennasco", but by 1795 in Ga. Jeremiah's spelling seems to have changed to "Manasco". Since both James and Jeremiah had sons named John born 1778-1779, the difference in spelling was an aid to our research in separating these two groups (John 1778/Lovisa; John 1779/Isabella), but could not be the sole separating factor as a few Menascos used Manasco, etc.
No other Menasco-Manascos born prior to 1750 period have been found anywhere that might fit into this first family.
It appears Jeremiah may have been older than James since he got more N. C. land in 1763 than did James; and in 1790 N. C. Census Jeremiah had a larger number of members in his family.
Birthyears for both Jeremiah and James can only be estimated.
PROOF OF PARENTAGE FOR JAMES MENASCO:
Will of "Santiago Manasco" (James Menasco) made 27 Aug 1802 New Orleans (La.), James stated he was a native of VA, a son of "Juan Manasco" (John Menasco) and "Susana Maxuele" (Susanna Maxwell). [Original Will written in Spanish language, Vol. 4 pp 385-388 of Notarial Records of Narcisse Broutin, Notarial Archives, New Orleans, La.] At this time LA was part of Spanish West Florida, governed by Spain. Note re. spelling: The name was written as Manasco by Narcisse Broutin on the will and James was too ill to sign his name, however, earlier records in the Spanish West Florida Archives (as well as earlier in N. C. and TN.) show that James signed as "James Menasco". The same N. Broutin wrote the name of James' father using the Manasco spelling but since James used "Menasco", if is concluded that his father, John, also used Menasco.
