Notes for William Jesse Peck:
Story as told by Rena Peck Van Dusen:
William and Rena first lived with Ornet Winston Peck upon their marriage but soon moved to a nearby farm. This farm was sold in 1922/1923 when they moved to Muscotah, Kansas. William worked for Matt Daniels at the local railroad for approximately six (6) months and they lived with Matt and Nora Daniels (Rena's Aunt).
They moved back to Missouri and William worked a farm owned by Enoch Nash, when he was stung by wasps while cutting tree sprouts; he came into the house and told Rena they were moving to California. Michael Peck; William Dalton (yes, the Dalton Family); Aunt Wilson and Mollie; William Pearlette and his family all moved together (Note: Picture exists). Otto and Ada McDonald (Ada was William's sister and Otto was Rena's Uncle) also sold their farm and moved to California.
Upon arriving in Pomona, Los Angeles County, California, William found work on a dairy ranch in Caremont, Los Angeles County, California. He only worked there a week because his hands became so swollen from the long hours and hard work. The lived at 707 North Park Avenue in Pomona and from there moved to a ranch in Claremont, Los Angeles County, California. He worked there as a Farm Laborer for 4-5 years for Mr. McDowell.
They moved back to Pomona and lived in a home at the corner of Reservoir and Third Street. While living at this residence, William worked for the Claremont Colleges as a gardener. He worked there for five (5) years when a ingrown goiter was removed along with his thyroid gland. William hadn't told anyone he'd been eating nothing but crushed corn flakes for some time.
