Thomas and Mary (nee Wiley) Harmon were married in 1807. They got their marriage license in June of that Year at Portland, District of Maine. Maine was then a District of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and did not become a separate state until March 15, 1820. At that time, Maine had a population of only 298,335 men, women and children living in 236 separate towns. No town was very large, including Portland. Sarah Phoebe Harmon was born to Thomas and Mary Harmon on March 25, 1818 at Portland, District of Maine. According to Hoebe Trumps VanArsdale, she was the youngest of seven children born to Thomas and Mary.
