Part of a Pioneer family moving out into the Washington Territory. A logger, automobile mechanic,Rancher, PUB/grocery store owner-operator .Worked for a car dealer and ran the garage/repair shop in Paisley , Oregon for a few years around WW1 and just afterwards. The family moved back to Tacoma in 1921.

In the 1930 census this family lived at 2918 So. 13th, Tacoma, Washington
This home was also run as a boarding house for over a decade.

Tacoma News Tribune , December 21, 1962:

John T. Carlson, 91, died this morning at the home of a son, Walter T. Carlson of McKenna. He wa born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and moved in 1881 to Anderson Island. He moved from Tillicum to McKenna 16 years ago on retiring. '
He operated a grocery store in Tillicum and had been a logging superintendent. At one time he operated a stage coach from Eatonville to Tacoma. Survivors, other than his son, are his wife, Sophia, of the home; two daughters, Mrs Rose Knight of Tacoma and Mrs. Florence Coleman of Eatonville; a sister, Mrs. Anna Platt of Centralia; three grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.
