Includes NotesNotes for William Gullion Young:
Her ancestral name, Yaat-So-Lietsa, is a powerful anchor to her heritage as a descendant of Scottish immigrant pioneer settlers who worked at Ft. Nisqually and married local native american women from the Tulalip Indian Reservation in the mid-1850's. Yaat-So-Lietsa was the name of the Snohomish Indian woman William Gullion Young married in 1850 and is Flora's great-great grandmother. They lived and worked together at Ft. Nisqually where the woman also known as Snohomish Jane gave birth to her first child in the Granery of the original fort. This granery is one of only two original buildings that remain intact at the current location of Ft. Nisqually in Point Defiance Park in Tacoma.
