Joseph Dupuis, born 15 Dec. 1806, (St. Cyprean) L'Acadie, son of Louis Dupuis and Marie-Falicite Chalifoux, came to Bourbonnais, Illinois, in 1854. "His small stature and light weight lead Mr. Dupuis to become a jockey in his youth. He rode horses in England and France . . . " Kankakee Gazette, June 16, 1896. There is also a story, unconfirmed, that he supplied the Union Army with horses during the Civil War. Presumably his jocky career occured before he came to Illinois. Would like to know if there is any family records in Canada of Joseph's exploits. - from Kankakee County Historian, Vic Johnson, my uncle who is married to my mother's sister, Theresa (Dupuis) Johnson.
