The information on this family at least down to Robert (b.1754) is derived from Old Families, New England Hist. & Gen. Register and WFT #3882. Most of the facts are the same, but there are some differences. I have entered the facts given in the books when different from the WFT file.

      424. Isaac ELWELL, born 02 27 1641/42 in (bptz) Salem, MA; died 10 14 1715 in Gloucester, MA. He was the son of 760. Robert ELWELL and 761. Joane (ELWELL). He married 425. Mehitable MILLETT Abt. 1666.

      425. Mehitable MILLETT, born 03 14 1640/41 in Dorchester, MA; died 09 28 1699 in Gloucester, MA. She was the daughter of 850. Thomas Millett and 851. Mary Greenaway.

Notes for Isaac ELWELL:
      Info on Isaac and family from Davis, FTM CD194. Isaac was apprenticed to Henry Harwood of Salem at the age of seven and stayed with him for 14 years. Davis does not say what trade but then says Isaac was a cordwainer or shoemaker and lived on what is now High Street in Gloucester. He gave his son Joshua an acre of land in 1709 which "was probably a house-lot, for Joshua was married that year."
      Isaac died in 1715 and when his widow, Mary, died in 1772/3, administration of his estate went to Joshua. Apparently, Eleazer had "declined it in writing." The two older sons having already died. Isaac, Jr drowned in Jan 1689/90 and on Jan. 2, 1709/10 his estate was granted to Ezekiel Collins for the "benefit of his brothers and sisters, Eleazer and Joshua Elwell, Joanna Tucker, Abigail Stover and Bethia Rowe, each of whom received 14s 2d. (from Essex probate records, per Davis) Nothing on why it took 20 years to administer his estate.
      All of Isaac, Sr.'s estate was settled on "Joshua, he to pay his brother and sisters in cash. Eleazer received a little over 12 pounds, Abigail Stover, Joanna Tucker, Bethia Urin and Jemima Elwell a little over 6 pounds each.

      426. Nicholas Denning, Jr., born Abt. 1645; died 06 09 1725 in Gloucester, MA. He was the son of 852. Nicholas Denning, Sr. and 853. Elizabeth Davis. He married 427. Eme Brown.

      427. Eme Brown (Source: Amunsey-Hopkins Genealogy.), born 1645 in New Harbor, Bristol?; died Abt. 1725 in Gloucester, MA. She was the daughter of 376. John Brown I and 377. Margaret Hayward.

Notes for Nicholas Denning, Jr.:
      Dates and locations for Nicholas and family are unverified. Names from Nichols Davis, 1956, Elwell of Gloucester on FTM CD 194. Davis says; "Richard Pearse made an affidavit at Marblehead May 21, 1729, stating that Agnes Doliber, Eme Elwell, Elizabeth Paine, Nicholas Denning, Mary Stevens, William Denning and George Denning were all children of Eme Brown, daughter of John Brown and wife of Nicholas Denning, who formerly lived at New Harbor at the eastward near Pemaquid." (from Essex Deeds 24: 104)
