Born in New York, he moved to New Bedford as an infant and lived in the area most of his life. A gifted student and violinist, Mr. Sachs graduated from New Bedford High School at age 15 and entered the New England Conservatory in Boston. After graduation, he had his own radio program on which he played the violin. His recitals receive many rave reviews from The Standard-Times and he also taught violin for many years and wrote and performed radio advertisements for local businesses. Mr. Sachs formed a chamber music quartet with some well-known musicians and played every week for more than 40 years, often performing free concerts at local libraries. Mr. Sachs also served as the first violinist in the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. As a young man, Mr. Sachs was an equestrian, sport fisherman, artist, astronomer, and avid reader. Generation No. 3 4. Albert Purvis Sachs, born in Lithuania; died in New Bedford, MA, burial Plainview Cemetary. He married 5. Minnie Yoblonsky December 25, 1906 in New York, NY. 5. Minnie Yoblonsky, born in Lokava or Kovna, Lithuania; died in New Bedford, MA, burial Plainview Cemetary. She was the daughter of 10. David Purva/Purvey Yoblonsky and 11. Matla (Purva/Purvey). Notes for Albert Purvis Sachs: Family group info supplied by: David Sachs, Stuart Sachs, Barry Sachs, Bill and Sue Sachs Wedding date surmised from picture of 50th wedding anniv. picture with date of 12-25-1956 on back. There is a lot of confusion about the family names. It is known that Albert and Minnie (according to them) were first cousins, but not what the connection is exactly (which of there parents were siblings?). Jean Kuehneman's family believes that Minnie's family name was Purva or Purvey. Minnie's siblings all took some form of the name Yablonsky when they arrived in this country. Albert's middle name is Purvis and it is believed he took the name Sachs upon entering this country. My assumption is that Albert and Minnie's fathers were brothers and the name was Purvis or some form of it. Why the names Sachs and Yablonsky were chosen is unknown, but apparently it was fairly common to take the name of the person(s) sponsoring the immigrant. Jean was able to locate some marriage and death records for Minnie's siblings. Parents names were either not given or the Yablonsky name was used. Also various locations of birth were given and we are unsure if this has to do with changing boundaries, lack of knowlege by surviving family members or some other reason. Family members believe Minnie's family was from Lokava, Lithuania. Notes for Minnie Yoblonsky: Minnie is actually child #5. All of this family info was supplied by Jean Kuehneman. She is granddaughter of Harry, Minnie's brother. Minnie told her daughter-in-law, Sue (wife of William), that she and Albert met in Lithuania. He would ride over to her village from his village. She thought at first he was coming to see her older sisters because she was "still flat!" Children of Albert Sachs and Minnie Yoblonsky are: 2 i.
