Ancestors of Paul Frederick Fraser

Generation No. 3

      4. Henry Earl Fraser, born Abt. 1826 in Belleisle Bay, NB Canada; died 1909. He was the son of 8. George Fraser and 9. Sophia Erb. He married 5. Agnes Campbell McKenzie.

      5. Agnes Campbell McKenzie, born Abt. 1834 in New Brunsick, Canada.

Notes for Henry Earl Fraser:
The 1860 Calais, ME census shows as head of the household, Henry E. Fraser as a 34 year old Harness Maker. Others in the household are Agnes C. (26, Henrietta (6 mos), George Fraser (60), Sophia (58), Warren Fraser (28) and Sovina Sinclair (16), a servant. All birth locations are givenas New Brunswick, except Henrietta's, which was in Maine (no birth record was found for her in Calais). We assume that George and Sophia are Henry's parents and Warren is his brother. George is listed as a pedler and Warren a house carpenter.
The tax records for Calais first show Henry in Calais in 1853 and the last entry was in 1863. Henry's son, Robert, was in Sagamore, MA when his first child was born and that is the first indication of location for anyone after Calais. Robert, Ada and all of their children were buried in N. Falmouth, MA, but there were no records in the same place for Henry, Agnes, George or Sophia. Family history states that at least some time was spent in Dorchester, MA, but no dates or names.

Children of Henry Fraser and Agnes McKenzie are:
2 i.   Robert Henry Fraser, born 09-16-1862; died 11-18-1927 in (Bur. N. Falmouth, MA); married Ada Ann Shanklin.
  ii.   Margaret F. Fraser.
  iii.   Charlotte F. Fraser.

      6. John James Shanklin, born 1840 in Bellisle Bay, NB Canada; died 1932. He married 7. Elizabeth Spragg.

      7. Elizabeth Spragg, born 1842 in Hatfield Pt., NB Canada; died 1870 in NB Canada. She was the daughter of 14. Jacob Spragg and 15. Betsey (Spragg).

Notes for John James Shanklin:
Census record information sent by Caronne Secord (Springfield Parish, Kings County, New Brunswick). The 1871 records show John's children, Ada and Haddon as living with their grandparents (see notes for Jacob Spragg). A family member gave Elizabeth's death as 1870 and the 1881 census shows John as a mariner. It would make sense that the children lived with their grandparents while John was at sea. The 1881 census shows John remarried to Fany. A Mina Morill, age 15, is also listed in the household. Could be a sister to Fany or a dau. from a previous marriage. Ada and Haddon were listed as Irish in origin on the 1871 census and English on the 1881 census. My guess is that John was Irish but the person who gave the information in 1881 just decided to make everyone English for some reason. Perhaps if he were of Irish descent, but born in Canada, some considered that to be English Origin??? Caronne also took exception to the fact that Ada and Haddon were listed last after Fany's children and Mina and wondered about the type of step-mother she was. 1881 census also shows Haddon as a mariner and all as C. Baptist.
John and Elizabeth's birth and death dates and locations from Mary Fraser Woods (Ada's granddaughter).

Children of John Shanklin and Elizabeth Spragg are:
3 i.   Ada Ann Shanklin, born 12-20-1867 in Springfield, NB Canada; died 04-25-1949 in Falmouth, MA; married Robert Henry Fraser.
  ii.   Haddon Shanklin, born 1862.

Children of John Shanklin and Fany (Shanklin) are:
  i.   George Shanklin, born Abt. 1877.
ii.   Welden Shanklin, born Abt. 1879.
iii.   Charley Shanklin, born Abt. 1880.
