Ancestors of Paul Frederick Fraser

Generation No. 4

      8. George Fraser, born Abt. 1800 in New Brunsick, Canada. He married 9. Sophia Erb 08-23-1821 in Kingston, Kings, NB.

      9. Sophia Erb, born Abt. 1802 in New Brunsick, Canada. She was the daughter of 18. Henry Erb.

Notes for George Fraser:
The Kings County (New Brunswick) marriage index, per Caronne Secord, shows the marriage of "George Fraser, yeoman, parish of Kingston, Sophia Erb, parish of Kingston, spinster" on the date shown above. Witnesses were Jacob Ricker and William Erb.
The 1860 Calais census shows George as a pedler. I wonder what happened to his land in Kingston??

Children of George Fraser and Sophia Erb are:
4 i.   Henry Earl Fraser, born Abt. 1826 in Belleisle Bay, NB Canada; died 1909; married Agnes Campbell McKenzie.
ii.   Warren Fraser, born Abt. 1832.

      14. Jacob Spragg (Source: Springfield Parish, Kings Cnty, NB Census - 1851.), born Abt. 1809 in New Brunsick, Canada. He married 15. Betsey (Spragg).

      15. Betsey (Spragg) (Source: Springfield Parish, Kings Cnty, NB Census - 1851.), born Abt. 1814 in New Brunsick, Canada.

Notes for Jacob Spragg:
Conclusions on Jacob and Betsey being the parents of Elizabeth based on Springfield Parish Census information sent by Caronne Secord. The 1851 census shows them as having the children listed including 8 year old Elizabeth, which matches the birthdate for her given by a family member. The 1861 census was lost. The 1871 census shows Elizabeth's children, Ada and Haddon Shanklin, living with Jacob and Hepzibah* and some other children listed match Elizabeth's siblings. The 1881 census shows Ada and Haddon as back with their father who was listed as a mariner. It would make sense that the children's grandparents, after their mother's death, would care for them while the father was at sea. (see notes for John Shanklin)
Both census records show births of Jacob and Betsey/Hepzibah in New Brunswick and of English Origin. They were Baptists and Jacob was a farmer along with his sons Israel and Wilford who were living with him in 1871. Also shown with the family in 1871 were Thomas and Judith Benson (39 & 21). They could have been boarders but the earlier census shows a two year old Judah. This could have been Judith misspelled and this Judith is now married and living with her parents. Benson's birth was in the U.S. and his occupation was listed as doctor. A note by the enumerator appears in the margin next to Thomas Benson and Caronne quoted it: "Quack! Quack! Quack?!! Cures by laying on hands."
*Hepzibah's age is consistent with Betsey's so Betsey could be a nickname given on the earlier census or Hepzibah could be a second wife. There were two Elisas, one on each census that could not be the same person. It could mean that Hepzibah was married before and this is her daughter and not Jacob's. Another, and more likely possiblilty is that the first Elisa died and the second is her namesake.

Children of Jacob Spragg and Betsey (Spragg) are:
7 i.   Elizabeth Spragg, born 1842 in Hatfield Pt., NB Canada; died 1870 in NB Canada; married John James Shanklin.
ii.   Elisa Spragg, born Abt. 1837 in New Brunsick, Canada.
iii.   Alfred Spragg, born Abt. 1840 in New Brunsick, Canada.
iv.   Israel Spragg, born Abt. 1846 in New Brunsick, Canada.
  v.   Judah Spragg, born Abt. 1849 in New Brunsick, Canada.
vi.   Wilford Spragg, born Abt. 1851 in New Brunsick, Canada.
vii.   Hatfield Spragg, born Abt. 1855 in New Brunsick, Canada.
viii.   Elisa Spragg, born Abt. 1863 in New Brunsick, Canada.
