Notes for Gov. Thomas Dudley:
All data for this family by Enfield from "Charlemagne Desc." except wedding date from "Plantagenet Ancestry." Savage (Vol 2) agrees with Thomas's birth date and father as Capt. Roger Dudley and adds that Thomas was the 3rd Govenor of Mass. Bay, served under Henry IV of France at the Siege of Amiens (with permission from the Queen) and came to MA as deputy gov. in the Arbella.

Notes for John Hanson:
All information on this family (including ancestors from this point on) from Old Kent book, matches that in Denise Choppin's work. The book also gives the Hanson Arms (English) "ARMS: Or, a chevron, countercomponed, argent and azure, between three martlets, sable. CREST: On a helm, a chapeau, argent, lined argent, a martlet, volant, sable, mantled gules, double argent. MOTTO: SOLA VIRTUS INVICTA. N.B. Certified by William Ryley, Norroy King at Arms, 17th Jan'y 1652."

Notes for Joseph Grafton:
      From the New England Historical and Genealogical Record, Vol 106: "Joseph Grafton was a successful Salem sea captain and merchant who had a ketch of forty tons which on 17 May 1640, made a voyage to Pemaquid, 'brought back some twenty cows, oxen &c. with hay and water for them to the bay'. Later Grafton got mixed up in the La Tour, D'Aulnay controversy, lost his ship and suffered severly."
      From the 'Ancestry of Beulah Fogg Maguire: "Joseph settled in Salem by 1636. He possibly had been living in New England for several years before then, as very early he began in New England for several years before then, as very early he began to make coasting voyages of some distance and to conduct mercantile enterprises. He was a mariner and merchant and left a considerable estate (including shares in several vessels) at his death. Joseph's parentage has not yet been discovered. However, Widow Ann Scarlet of Salem in her will (1639) mentioned her brothers Samuel and David, her 3 children, her sister Dennis, her brother James Hindes, her brother Thomas Browning and his wife, and her brother Joseph Grafton. Also, Joseph was allowed various sums by town for keeping the Widow Dennis from 1660 until her death in 1663. Evidently some relationship by blood or marriage existed between all of these people. Mary d. in Nov. 1674, and Joseph m. 2d Bethia (Rea), widow of Capt. Thomas Lathrop (k. 1675). Joseph made 2 purported wills, the later one dated June 7, 1681. these writings being imperfect, his estate was distributed by an agreement between the heirs which the court allowed."
