*History of Hampton : He was from Ormesby, England and was a blacksmith. "Possibly a son of Richard Grene named in the Subsidy Roll in 1489 and the Katherine Grene who left a will in 1507. Or he may be the son of Edward Green, mariner listed as freeman at Gt. Yarmouth in 1513. The wife of Richard may possibly have been the Alice Green, widow taxed 22d in the 1570 Rental Roll. She is not named in his will, which is dated 15 Apr. 1561. The will was proved at Canterbury. Richard's name appears in a number of Rental and Subsidy Rolls for Ormesby, starting with 1545 when he paid a tax of 26s 8d. Thomas Marston's will in 1548 mentions Rd Grene, smithy."
"Richard appears to have been quite wealthy. In addition to Ormesby property, he held a 'copie hold' on land in Filby. Richard's Will reads: 'Item I give to Jone Multon my daughter œ5 of lawful english money. Item I give to Mary Multon my nece (granddaughter) 20s.' His son William received the house, tenement, hopp house and copie hold on land in Filby. His son's Robert and Thomas ase named. Thomas is under the age of 21 years. Two granddaughters were given bequeaths; Elizabeth Grene and Jane Williams. Son Richard Jr. is not named in the Will. He apparently had already received his inheritance of the Ormesby property. John Grene of Hemsby, another propable son, is not named in the will." Children were:
