Yorkshire Co., England as his place of birth. "In the records from Yorkshire
(confirmed by the Morman Church) the child Robert Mitton was the son of a William
and christened Jan 1, 1792, in Bainton, Yorkshire, England. The child Robert
born of William Mitton and Elizabeth Bolton, is shown as M/C which is Male Christening,
on October 23, 1783, . In the same records, for 1787, we find the birth of another
child born to William and Elizabeth Bolton, a Mary Mitton, born November 19,
1787 in Badsworth, Yorkshire, England.

*Pioneers on Little River : "Robert Mitton, a nephew of John Mitton, an
earlier immigrant from Yorkshire, came to the province in 1817. He came aboard
the ship Valiant and first landed on Prince Edward Island."
"The first two years after coming to the province he was employed on
the farm of William Sinton, Jr., at the mouth of the Little River. In the latter
family there were three daughters, but no sons.
Robert Mitton took up land on the Little River, about Three miles below
Parkindale. He was married four times - had twenty two children in three families.
There were no children by the fourth marriage.
He was married and had three children when he arrived in the province.
His third wife was a Miss Kay, probably a daughter of William Kay, the pioneer
of that family name in Salisbury Parish.
Some of his sons were: George, Early, William, and Roland. The last named
was the youngest son, and is now (1932) living on the homestead with his son
Gabriel. He is active and enjoying good health, although past ninety years of
age. He recently informed the writer that two brothers of his father accompanied
the latter from Yorkshire to this province - William, who settled at Cape Tormentine;
and Richard, who settled in Dorchester."
*Pioneer Settlers in Salisbury NB : "Another account of the coming to Canada
of the Fawcett Family, is given in Trueman's 'Chignecto Isthmus and its First
Settlers', as follows:
'In 1817 (March 22nd.) Thomas Fawcett, of Stockton Forest, Yorkshire, sailed
from Hull on the ship Valiant, bound for Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
The voyage lasted seventy three days. About the middle of the voyage the Valiant
came across a Scotch brig in a sinking condition and took on board her sixty
passengers and crew. There were one hundred and ninety immigrants on the ship
when she arrived at her destination.' "
" ' Other passengers of the Valiant were: John Milner, settled at
Sackville; John Towse, settled at Dorchester; Robert Morrison, settled at Sussex;
Robert Mitton and family settled in Coverdale'. "

*E-Mail : "Originally from Yorkshire, England, 30 miles from Hull. He walked
90 miles to Liverpool to arrange passage to Canada. He came to Canada in 1816
at age of 29."..." Robert settled first in PEI and in 1817 came to
NB where he took out land in Little River. His first log cabin was built near
the river on the Mitton farm. His wife Jane Mainprize and 3 children came with
him from England. He married 5 times and had 20 children and 2 step children.
Robert was the first settler in Little River. Spent his last days in Turtle
Creek, Albert county NB and is buried on farm owned by Watson Wilson. According
to the book "Chignects Isthmus" by Howard Truman, Robert Mitton came
to Cove Head, Prince Edward Island (another province) leaving Hull, England March
22, 1817 on the boat Valiant."

She was Robert's 1st wife and the mother of his 1st 6 children. She was probably
born in England and died about 4 years after immigrating to New Brunswick, with
Robert Mitton and their 3 young children.

His parent's had only been in NB about 6 months when Robert Jr. was born, making
him the 1st of Robert's children [and possibly the 1st Mitton] to be born in
