ship that in 1620 brought the Pilgrims from England to New England. Under Capt.
Christopher Jones, she sailed from Southampton on Sept. 16, sighted land (Cape
Cod) on Nov. 19, and landed at Plymouth on Dec. 26. He immigrated on DEC 26
1620 to Plymouth, MA. arrived on the Mayflower [man servant of Edward and Elizabeth
Winslow] He died in 1680 in Duxbury, MA.(3409)
Red Morris Book : "George Soule came in the 'Mayflower', located
at Plymouth, Mass., and about 1643 removed to Duxbury, where he died in 1680."

*Mayflower Families : "George Soule, the thirty-fifth signer of the Compact,
came in the service of Edward Winslow, but was taxed after 1633. As early as
1626 he married Mary Becket, who came over in the Anne. He was one of the pioneers
in the settlement of Duxbury, and was five times a deputy therefrom to the General
Court. He was one of the origional propietors of Bridgewater, and was among
the purchasers of Dartmouth. He died in 1680. "
*Soule, Sowle, and Soulis History Vol.1 p.187 : He was believed to have been
a young scholar, and might have been under the service of the Winslows as a teacher.
p.188 : "Without enumerating the minor official positions filled by George
Soule, it may be sufficient to allude to the one important duty to which he was
called: as a collaborator with Governor Prince, Winslow and Constant Southworth,
in the revision of the Colonial Laws. This position was one of great responsibility
and required the exercise of superior ability. Few were the men in the settlement
at the time who were possessed with the scholarship and judgment equivalent to
such a task; and the result was evidence of his erudition and application.
In the history of Duxbury, Windsor says of George Soule: 'Though not a man
distinguished in the government of the colony, yet he was of essential service
in his town, holding positions to which he would not been called had he not been
a man of integrity and probity.' Another historical writer has stated, 'Among
the early settlers of this town were some of the ablest men in the colony, including
John Alden, William Brewster, Thomas Prince and George Soule.' "

*Soule, Sowle, and Soulis History : "It appears that in 1662, she fell from
grace by committing adultery with Nathanial Church, to whom she was engaged to
be married; he refusing to fulfill the compact, they were both convicted of the
criminal act and each was fined 5 lbs. However the alliance was continued and
for the second offence both were publicly brought to the whipping post and the
lash applied. Refusing to recognize his obligation to take her as his wife,
she sued him for breach of promise for the sum of 100 lbs. He was convicted
by the court, and the jury awarded her 10 lbs and costs of suit. She was subsquently
married to Francis Walker, previous to 1663."

soldiers' called out by the Plymouth Colony on February 8, 1675-6, and under
the command of Capt. Michael Pierce was engaged in the ill-fated battle against
outnumbering Indians who out-generaled him, led him with his men into a cunningly
arranged ambuscade and hewed them to pieces. From the town of Scituate fifteen
were slain; from Marshfield, nine were slain; from Duxbury, four were killed,
among them Benjamin Soule."
