*Rix : "He lived in Ipswich [Mass] until about 1727, when he removed to
Newbury, Mass., and about 1740 he removed to Boscawen, NH. He had eight children
b. in Ipswich, and four in Newbury. Soon after coming to Boscawen, he commenced
clearing land. In the summer of 1746, while working in the field at Boscawen,
he was surprised by Indians and captured, and because of his resistance he was
slain and scalped, and his body was thrown into the Merrimac river."..."Probably
his wife never came to Boscawen."
*Chronological Register of Boscawen: "Josiah Bishop was the first of the
settlers, who was taken by the Indians. He was surprised and taken, when at work
in his field, at the lower end of King-street. The Indians took him into the
woods; but finding him unyielding to their wishes, they killed him, as reported
by other captives, who were informed by the perpetrators."
He was married to * Sarah Adams on FEB 7 1704.

*Rix : "He came to Boscawen soon after his father's death, probably taking
his farm. In 1754, when the Indians made their memorable attack on the cabin
of the family of Philip Call, Enos Bishop was one of thirteen men sent in pursuit
of the enemy. The company fell into an ambush, and he with others were captured
and taken to Canada. Enos finally escaped and returned to Boscawen. He probably
removed to Haverhill, as the birth of his son Enos is recorded there. He served
in Capt. James Osgood's company of rangers upon the Northern frontiers in 1775,
and early in 1776, he served in Col. Timothy Bedel's regiment, and in the fall
of the same year, he enlisted in the Continental service in Col. Cilley's regt.,
and was reported sick, Jan. 10, 1778, and d. while he was in the service."
