*From obituaries: ... "Born in Quincy, Mass. He worked with his father
in the building trades in earlier years. He moved to Sugar Hill in 1931 and
worked at Peckett's during the 1930's as a carpenter. He also fitted skiis for
students of Sig Buckmier, an Austrian ski instructor. During World War II, Mr.
Grass worked with his brother [Albert] in Quincy, manufacturing brainwave recording
instruments, now known as electroencephalographs. In 1944, he moved to Franconia
and resumed his carpentry trade. While in Franconia, he served as tax collector,
selectman, school board member, and state representative. In 1951, a heart attack
caused Mr. Grass to retire from carpentry. He then took up fine machine work,
manufacturing components for Grass Instrument Co. [in Quincy, Mass.] [working
at home] Mr. Grass also served as a shop instructor at the Laconia State School.
[where they lived from 1951-1953] In 1953, he returned to Franconia and in 1963
moved to West Plymouth."...
