*Colchester History: "He and his borther Samuel were grantees of the Township
of Londonderry [NS]. They had front land at Little Dyke. They resided there
for some time, and buried two of their children on a small island near the shore."
Robert and Samuel exchanged farms with Capt. John Morrison and William Corbet
[grantees of the Township of Truro] and removed to Truro. "Robert Archibald,
while in Truro, resided in a house which stood on the hill near the place that
Capt. R.W. Miriam now resides. In his house the Town meetings were frequently
held, as it was the lower house in the Upper Village. He was Town Clerk for
a length of time, and on September 16th, 1780, he was appointed Justice of the
Peace for what is now the whole of the counties of Cochester and Pictou."
... He "was Colonel of the Militia and land surveyor. He surveyed and divided
a large part of Truro Township, and the whole of the Township of Onslow. He
was Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. He removed to Musquodoboit in 1787,
and settled on the farm on which his grandson, David Archibald now resides.
He traveled to Onslow to attend Court." ... "After he removed to Musquodoboit,
he traveled to Halifax with his butter-tubs in a bag on the horse's back, and
one article that he purchased in Halifax was a large Family Bible," ...
Thomas Miller [the writer] examined this bible in 1871, when it was in the possession
of Robert's great grandson, George McLeod, Esq., of Musquodoboit. It was "in
good condition. It contained the record of his family; also the record of his
daughter Hannah's family," He was married to * Hannah Blair on APR 2 1767
in Colchester Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.(757)
