*History of Hampton : "John Samborne, supposed to be the father of the first
three American Sambournes - described in the London Visitation of 1687, as a
merchant, with his brother Richard (13). The Sambornes in England were very
few, in 1620, and indeed no branches have been traced, except those given above.
John Samborne was born about 1590, and probably removed to London with his
two brothers by 1615; but the family ties were in Dorsetshire, the next county
to Hampshire, where lived Rev. Stephen Bachiler, whose daughter married the father
of ther first three American Sambornes. In 1630-31 we find her a widow, living
in Strand, in London."

*History of Hampton : "John, William, and Stephen, brothers, were grandsons
of Mr. Steven Bachiler, the first pastor of the church in Hampton. According
to tradition, their father died in England, leaving these sons and their mother
to the care of Mr. Bachiler, her father, and they all came to New England with
him in 1632, and about six years later, to Hampton."
"The three brothers named were here and all of them in possession of
house-lots as early as 1644. Their names are all on the tax-list of 1653, and
all held town offices."
"John Sanborn, one of the immigrants, received for a house-lot, partly
by grant from the town, and partly by gift from his grandfather, Mr Batchiler,
four acres of land,..."

*History of Hampton : "John, William, and Stephen, brothers, were grandsons
of Mr. Steven Bachiler, the first pastor of the church in Hampton. According
to tradition, their father died in England, leaving these sons and their mother
to the care of Mr. Bachiler, her father, and they all came to New England with
him in 1632, and about six years later, to Hampton."

home. In 1655 he resigned the office of selectman several months before the
expiration of his term, for the purpose, it is said, of accompanying his grandfather
Bachiler in his return to England. The date of leaving New England is not known."
"Stephen's house-lot, sometime before 1644, was on the westerly side
of his brother William's; but at that date, it appears to have passed out of
his possession. In 1653, he was probably living near his brother John."
Note : His 2 daughters listed were born in Hampton and both returned to England
with him as young children, where they probably remained. He probably had other
children, but they are not known. |
