tombstone in Alpheton Church From White's 1844 Suffolk, a directory, which lists mostly tradespeople. White states that Alpheton, a scattered village and parish, on the eastern side of a rivulet, 6 miles N. of Sudbury, contains 321 souls and 1202 acres of land. N. C. Barnardiston, Esq. is now lord of the manor, but part of the soil belongs to Messrs. Wm. Gardener, S. Death and J. Gosling About 200 acres are copyhold, subject to arbitrary fines. The church (St. Peter and St. Paul) is an ancient tiled fabric, with a tower and two bells. Among the nine persons listed, mostly tradespeople and the vicar, is Death, Samuel, farmer, Hall. (Perhaps Death left a will, which MAY be on file in Suffolk RIO, which is where I found several wills in my family.)u
