This family tree was made possible after more than ten years of research and is believed to be true and correct to the best of my knewlodge.William and Mary Akin Montgomery came from Ireland in 1718 landed in what was then known as Corke, ME. ( later information would indicate that they indeed come from Glenarm, Antrim)they only stayed the winter as there were problems with the indians and 1720 found them in Hopkintom, MA. where they resided until the family had a split with the church in 1733 and moved to Blandford, MA where the stayed until the family divided and moved throughout the USA. James, John and Abigail, who was then married to John Harper migrated to Delaware County, NY. The other daughters married but little is known about them after that time. Agnes Married Armour Hamilton, 2nd. Charles Campbell; Ann married Patrick Hamilton; 2nd. Samual Gamwell. If there is any information about them I would be glad receive same. Roger de Montgomery from Normandy who came with William the Conqueror in 1066 at the battle of Hastings and was given land in Wales where he established the base for the Montgomery Clan I am more than willing to share, receive or supply any information in order to reach this end. William and Mary Akin Montgomery are believed to have come to America with their children James, John, Abigail. Ann and Agnes on a ship McCallon or MacCullum from Londonderry, she was 70 tons and arrived in Boston, MA. September 8, 1718 with 100-160 passengers and some linen, only to leave a week later for Casco Bay, ME. the group was led by Presbyterian ministers from Aghadowey, Rev. James McGregerand and Rev.James Woodside, and were placed down in a place called CORK. The names of some were William Montgomery, ...............Caldwell, James Steel, David Steel and ................McNut. I have discovered two new branches and will up-date the attached extended family tree as soon as I have completed my research. I am still waiting for information from members of a Montgomery-Harper branch (Mary Harper (Cowles) and have also discovered another new Montgomery-Harper branch (Don & Sylvia Leutz) and their information is in the mail (9-15-98). Thanks to so many good people, my family tree is ever expanding. Let me hear from you. Since I established my web page I have has many requests for Harper-Montgomery tree information so I have added the Lowell Montgomery Harris line and the Edwin Montgomery line. New information will be added as received. An Ulster timeline at a Irish website; 1675 AD Saddled by crippling debts after supporting Cromwell, the Montgomery's sold the Lordship and Manor of Newtown to Capt. Robert Colville for the sum of 10,540 pounds sterling. John Harper was born in Newtown Limivady. Through the efforts of Donna Cuillard and the cooperation of the Harper Genealogy committee, I have received a GEDCOM Disk of the Montgomery/Harper lines which consists of 3,990 Individuale and 1,440 marriages. Needless to say, this has enhances my information beyond my wildest dreams. Soooo, If you feel that I may now have information which might help and which I have been unable to furnish in the past, please write. So much has changed and been added since I first wrote the above. I am now quite sure that the family were residing in the area of Dunboe, Londonderry, NI. and they did in fact ship on the MacCullon with Rev. James Woodsider who at the time was Minister of the First Prebysterion of Dunboe. I have written to Rev. James McCaughan of Dunboe, requesting his help but he seems to be so busy he does not have time to answer. Revdunboe@aol.com If you would like to try. more later. |
