A letter from Ely Parker, US Grant's military Sec. and author of the terms of surrender with Robert E. Lee, is at the Holland Land Purchase Museam. Parker also was a civil engineer and hense a professional It is located in the room just to
the left of the front door. The letter and picture hang just to the right as you enter the room. The room is a tribute to a hero of the Civil War who is recognized by the US Congress as the very first volunteer when Lincoln called men to arms
on April 15, Eighteen Sixty One. He was awarded the very first Congressional Medal of Honor and it hangs on a wall near the leter to Charles Edward Napier.

According to letter to the Genesse County Historian from Rev. William H. Armstrong of Burton, OH., an author of a book on Ely Parker, this letter to Charles Edward is the last ever written by Ely Parker.
