About Our Family Research


I have just begun the exciting adventure of tracing my family roots.

My paternal grandfather. Rev. Oscar Samuel Neal, was born in Concord, DE in 1884. He was a Presiding Elder in the Philadelphia Conference of the AME Church. His married Octavia Richardson (my paternal grandmother) who was born in Red Bank NJ in 1889 and a teacher by trade. Their second eldest son Howard Arthur Neal (my father)was a Korean War (U.S. Navy)Veteran. He married Alma Cornelia Mayo (my mother)in Delaware County, PA in 1945.

My maternal great-grandfather (Edward Mayo) was born in the Petersburg, VA area and his wife (Isabel Glenn) was from, Morton, Delaware County, PA. Their son,Burton Edward Mayo (my grandfather)was born in Morton, PA. He was a boilermaker at Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in Chester, PA during World War II, an insurance salesman, a gardener and jack of all trades. He married my grandmother, Alma Victoria Pryor of Petersburg, VA in 1912. She was a graduate of Virginia State College (University)and taught school in the Petersburg area before moving to Morton, PA.

My family members primarily reside in the DE,DC,PA areas.
