2. DAVID2 LANE (JOHN1) died April 08, 1814 in Buffalo, Washington County, Pennsylvania. He married REBECKAH in Colonial. She was born in of Buffalo, Washington County, PA, and died in prob. of Wheeling, WV.

Pre 1781 research:
Virginia also claimed Southwestern Pennsylvania prior to 1781. It was included in their West Augusta Territory until 1775 when Virginia Created Yohogania, Monongalia and Ohio Counties.
Parts of Washington County fell within all three.
The pre-1781 researcher should consider Augusta County, VA records also. Yohogania Co., VA records are in Washingrton Co. Pa intermingled with Pennsylvania records in the earliest dockets: Monongalia Co, VA records (pre-1796 lost in fire) are in Morgantown, WV, and Ohio Co. VA records are in Ohio Co. WV.

Ohio County Virginia includes Wheeling, West Virginia and Donegal and West Alexander ( Alexandria and Buffalo Townships.

Col. Eleazer Lane used a cross-cut saw in the construction of Ft. Fincastle summer of 1779 to protect settlers from Indian attacks. It is shaped as a parrallelogram 356 feet in length and 15' wide surrounded by pickets 12' high. It became Ft. Henry in honor of Patrick Henry first Governor of the Ciommonwealth 1776.
(Ada Kenyon was born at Wheeling Oct 10, 1834 both Lane's and Kenyon's lived there before that event. Ft Fincastle/Ft Henry is in Wheeling.

1840 Washington County Census lists two Lanes located at West Bethlehem Township Daniel Lane@260, John Lane @260 and
Joseph Lane@272 West Middletown. These could be the sons of our David & Jane Lane\

1810 Census lists David Lane #061 and Thomas Lane #058 both in Buffaloe
and Rachel Lane in Hopewell # 053.

BUFFALO TOWNSHIP IS BOUNDED ON THE NORTH BY HOPEWELL, ON THE EAST BY CANTON AND FRANKLIN, ON THE SOUTHEAST, SOUTH, AND SOUTHWEST BY FRANKLIN AND EAST FINLEY, AND ON THE WEST BY DONEGAL TOWNSHIP, OF WHICH ...BUFFALO ORIGINALLY FORMED A PART.

Note: 1830 CENSUS Donegal Township, Washington Co. PA lists a David McLane on page 293 (He could be a son of our David Lane and a brother of Elizabeth Lane).

All persons indebted to the estate of David Lane, dec. late of Buffalo township, Washington county, either by note, book account, or cost on magistrates dockets, are requested to attend on Thursday the 8th December next, in Taylors town, and settle with the executors. All persons having claims against said estate are required to attend on said day, w3ith their accounts properly authenticated for settlement ?s? John Wolff and Charles Mc Roberts.
