UFUS MELICHE NEWELL:
In 1870, "Rufus" 18 AL is living with his grandparents, James and Sarah (Boyd) Newell.
"In 1900 Rufus M. Newell of Tuscaloosa was hired by Judge John T. Cochrane, head of the Tuscaloosa Belt Railway, to construct a railroad from Reform to Mobile. ... AT&N Railroad's Foreman was Rufus Newell." (from an article in the 'Pickens County Herald', the Aliceville newspaper, in 1977.)
The 1910 census lists "Freddie P. age 14" and "Bedford age 9" which would seem to be reversed. There is a daughter on the 1910 census listed as age 28, single, transcribed as "Inza." The name appears to be "Louisa", but she was with husband Jerome Shows on the 1910 Tuscaloosa Co. census.
AL Death listing for "Rufas M. Newell" dod Jun 1929 Pickens Co., AL.

Notes for G
EORGE ANNA ELIZABETH VICE:
Georgiana's birthdate is based on notes found in James Thomas Newell's old trunk after his death. Based on 1870 Sanford Co., AL census, she may have been born Dec 14, 1862 vs 1863. The census dated Jul 7, 1870 states that she was age 7, which should have been her age at last birthday. Her Death Certificate shows 1863 but the "6" and "3" appear to have overwritten unknown numbers.
      Written "G. A. E." 7 AL in 1870.
Written "Georgia A." 36 AL AL AL in 1900. Georgiana has borne nine children and seven are living. The only deceased child known before 1900 was Minnie Belle.
Written "Anna" 47 AL in 1910. She has borne 13 children and 11 living.
Smudged but appears to be "Georgiana" 56 AL in 1920 widowed head of household and a farmer. Living with her are sons Hubert, Huston, Marvin, and Roscoe with his two oldest daughters.
In 1930, Georgianna is living in the Fenton and Maudie (Newell) Yarbrough household.
