76. WILLIAM J.4 NEWELL (UNKNOWN3, SARAH "SALLY"2 BOYD, ROBERT1) was born October 1850 in AL, and died March 23, 1926 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL. He married MARY JANE WILLIAMS Abt. 1878 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL, daughter of CHARLES WILLIAMS and ELIZABETH (--?--). She was born October 2, 1858 in AL, and died March 24, 1928 in AL.

Notes for W
ILLIAM J. NEWELL:
There is a Tuscaloosa Co. marriage record for W. J. Newell to M. J. Williams. On the 1870 Sanford Co., AL census is a William J. Newell age 22 (ca1848) living with William and Mary Elizabeth (Newell, ca1833) Maddox. Apparently this William is Mary's brother - have not been able to determine their parents.
Written "W. J." 25 AL NC NC in 1880 a farmer. This would place W. J.'s birth about 1855. Wife is named "Jane." This is the 1st relatively clear census that allows this "William J." to be tracked.
Written "Wm. J. Newel" 48 AL AL AL in 1900 a farm laborer. Census lists dob as Oct 1850 and married 22 years. On the 1900 Jefferson Co., AL Soundex, there is a William, born Oct 1850, and M. J., born Oct 1858, with seven children. Then there is a cemetery record for W. J. Newell, born 28 May 1850 and Mary J. Newell born 2 Oct 1858, buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Tuscaloosa Co. These age discrepancies are problematic, and it is very possible that this census data might be for a grandson or nephew of James and Sarah, or even two different William J. Newells.
Written "William" 64 AL AL AL in 1910 a coal miner. Age should probably be about 58 becasue census tracks with 1900 by matches on wife and two children.
Written "Wm. J." 69 AL NC AL in 1920. Census tracks with 1900 by three matching children.
