He was buried in Brethren Church Cemetery, Beaver Creek, Washington, MD. Michael Newcomer served as a Democrat in the state legislature for two terms, about 1838 and 1840. He was a delegate to state constitutional convention in 1850, along with his brother John. In 1863 he was a county commissioner.

Michael Newcomer also served as a director of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad company. He lived in Beaver Creek, Maryland.
