of birth, but the published church record listed the 17th as the day. He died
on 13 Jun 1919 in Rockford, Winnebago, IL.
Upton Swingley went with his father, Nathaniel Swingley and some other men,
to the gold fields of California in 1850. They travel overland through what
became Omaha, Fort Laramie, Salt Lake City and Placerville, California. In November
of 1853, they started for home, paying $400 for tickets on a ship. They sailed
from San Francisco to the Panama Isthmus, where they walked across the isthmus.
Their ship arrived in New York 28 days after they left San Francisco.
He was
married to Frances Louise POTTER on 2 Feb 1858. Frances
Louise POTTER was born on 18 Jan 1837 in Oneida, Oneida, NY. She died on
19 Sep 1870 in Knoxville, Knox, IL. Upton SWINGLEY and Frances Louise POTTER
