      9. Mary Elizabeth HAMMER7, born January 27, 1843 in Mount Morris, Ogle, IL8; died April 30, 1920 in Mount Morris, Ogle, IL. She was the daughter of John Hammer and Elizabeth Witmer.

Notes for Melchor Snively Newcomer:
In 1854 Melchor Newcomer's family moved from Hagerstown, Maryland to a f arm six miles northwest of Mount Morris, Illinois. He helped organize M ount Morris College in 1879, after the closure of Rock River Seminary. H e bought the seminary for $6,000 from Robert Hitt in 1879.

In 1866 he joined the Church of the Brethren. He was elected to the mi nistry of the Church of the Brethren in 1869.

Melchor Newcomer's book of poems and prose entitled "Golden Gleamings, C omprising Poems and Prose Extracts from the Writings of M. S. Newcomer" w as published by the Daily Republican Printing and Binding House in Ceda r Rapids, Iowa in 1891.

      12. Cornelius Jacob Clingenpeel25, born September 10, 1867 in Boones Mill, Franklin, VA; died September 07, 1961 in Boones Mill, Franklin, VA. He was the son of Samuel Clingenpeel and Sarah Boitnott. He married 13. Cora Allie Flora February 02, 1899 in Boones Mill, Franklin, VA25.

Cornelius Clingenpeel was know as "Neal " to most, and C. J. to many. T o me, as a child, he was great granddad with the feathers--his pure whi te hair and big mustache reminded by preadolescent mind of bird feather s.

Cornelius Clingenpeel earned a teaching certificate from the Duncan Sch ool. The school was also known as the Hales Ford Classical and Mathema tical Academy at Scruggs. He taught at Mountain View School and other a rea schools.

In 1896 he became a merchant for C. L. Saul and Company postmaster of T accio, Virginia. In 1898 he bought C. L. Saul and Company. One year l ater he sold the company to T. L. Saul.

Cornelius and his wife began farming on land next to Bush Run in 1899. o n 16 March 1900, the land was partially given to them and partially sol d to them by Cora's father, Joel Flora. C. J. and Cora began with one m ilk cow, a calf, one dozen chickens and a bay mare.

He was a trustee of the Antioch Church of the Brethren.
Sandra Williams reported that Cornelius Clingenpeel's birth day was the 1 st, although the family Bible listed the 10th. I have used the family B ible day.
