John Lawrence Gormack (b. 10 August 1842, d. 16 March 1910)

John Lawrence Gormack (son of Lawrence Oliphant Gormack and Mary Moncrieff Peddie) was born 10 August 1842 in Bridges of Allan, Dunbarney, Perthshire, Scotland, and died 16 March 1910 in High Street, Dunedin, New Zealand. He married Mary McDonald on 22 December 1877 in Clinton, Dunedin, New Zealand, daughter of William McDonald and Agnes Cumming.

John was orphaned at 12 and was raised by Mrs Robert Mellor

Arrived in New Zealand on "Robert Henderson" C November 1861/2 at the age of twenty as a trained carpenter.

By 1874, he owned land south of Balclutha, past Clinton at Wairuna and while breaking in his farm, he continued to work on contract doing carpentry.
