Mr. David Naudé:

A friend saw Daniel in Aliwal North one day. Daniel and this friend was talking to each other on the pavement in front of the clothes shop (now Alita modes) when Takkie came out of the shop and asked Daniel to help her choose a dress because there was a few that she liked but could not decide which one she wanted. Daniel then replied that she should take all of them. After her death there was some dresses in her cupboard which she had not worn yet.

Daniel Oosthuysen and his family lived on the family farm, Burnet, Lady Grey. Him and his wife always went to town on a Wednesday and stayed over until Saturday to play tennis with their friends. They then decided that they rather wanted to live in town and moved to the house on the corner of Joubert street and Cloete street where Mrs. Lena Belling currently (year 2001) lives.

A few days before his death, he went to see Mr. David Naudé. He called Mr. David Naudé aside and to talk. He mentioned that he did not want his wife to be involved. He then told Mr. Naudé that he needed money and asked if Mr. Naudé would borrow him the money. It was a large sum and Mr. Naudé replied that he would have to think about it. Mr. Naudé then contacted his bank manager who told him that "Charity begins at home" and that he would not get the money back if he borrowed it to Danie. He advised Mr. Naudé
to give Danie money if he wanted to but that he should not expect get the money back.

Mr. David Naudé then contacted Danie and told him that he could not borrow him the money. He then suggested that Danie should contact his brother, Mr. Dawid B Naudé in order to borrow money from him.

Danie contacted Mr. Dawid B Naudé but also had no luck there.

A few days later he told the maid not to come to work on the next day. She did not obey and when she entered the house on the following morning she heard a strange sound. On investigating she found Takkie and the two children dead and Danie, still alive but with a bullet wound in his head. The one little girl had a smile on her face.

Danie was rushed to Bloemfontein but he died on the way. He killed his family with a .22 gun.

Danie and Takkie had many friends and this was a great shock to the people of Lady Grey.

The death of this family was so unnessesary. There was an amount of money that had to be paid out to Danie but he was not aware of this money.
