Peter Swann (Drama & Fringe Manager)

Peter Swann was 'n leerling aan die Pro Arte Hoërskool in Pretoria waar hy klavier as eerste instrument onder leiding van Alta Marx en klarinet as tweede instrument onder Andrew Earles bestudeer het. In 1985 was hy as pianis 'n semi-finalis in die TOD Concerto-fees en in die SAUK se Prelude-kompetisie. In 1986 ontvang hy 'n toekenning vir skryfkuns: drama, by die ATKV vir sy debuutwerk, DIE ANDER MENSE, 'n eenbedryf drama. Na matriek studeer hy verder aan die Pretoria Technikon se Filmskool.
While Studying for his ND in Film and Video Technology, he completed his first full length stage play, VIOLENCE, which was presented at the 1988 Standard Bank National Arts Festival: Fringe. He also worked on several local as well as international film projects as sound recorder and editor, film editor and director. Peter Swann has acted and directed for professional theatre since 1993. He has produced and acted in many theatre productions including SNACKTIME IN CANDYLAND (Grahamstown 1993 - writer and actor), Shirley Johnstone's award winning comedy. PLASTICS (1994, Ramblers Theatre, Director) as well as Reza de Wet's DRIE SUSTERS II (1997. Ex-act Theatre Company. actor). In 1995 he collaborated with Marais van den Berh on the writing of a cabaret called THE OTHER SIDE OF EVE and the production was hailed as one of the ten best productions at the 1995 Grahamstown Arts Festival by Gillian Anstey - Sunday Times critic.

There is some controversy regarding the event for which Mozart composed this work; no doubt exists that this is one of the great musical treasures of the world. Marais A van den Berg matriculated in 1989 at the High School De Aar. He sang in the school choir, was editor of the school newspaper and received the J Aucamp-Trophy for Best Language User. In the same year he also received the trophy for Best Male Public Speaker.
In 1995 he received the degree BA. with English and Philosophy as majors from the Free State University. As student he also took piano lessons with Marlis Potgieter. He was editor for the Arts and Culture Page of the IRAWA, the student newspaper. He won several poetry competitions at university. He is currently reading for BA. Hons. (English and Literary Theory) at UNISA.
As a student collaborated with Peter Swann in the writing of cabarets, some of which were performed at the Standard Bank National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. One of the cabarets, THE OTHER SIDE OF EVE, was voted as one of the ten best productions by Gillian Anstey, a Sunday Times-critic.
Currently he teaches English and Computers at the Lady Grey Arts Academy. He is also responsible for translations, press releases, marketing aspects and liaison.
When he is at home, he enjoys playing piano, he is an avid reader, and, one day soon, that first novel WILL be completed. His interests range from Philosophy to Theology, Writing and Composition, Languages and Computers. He lives with his dog, Helen. (LGAA CC - Krönungs-Messe Program 2001)

Melinda van Schalkwyk matrikuleer in 1993 aan die Hoër Meisieskool Oranje. Sy behaal haar B.A. graad in Beeldende Kuns aan die UOVS mer hoofvakke Skilder (onderskeiding) en Kunsgeskiedenis.
In 1997 is van haar werke gekies as deel van die studente-uitstalling in die Marked Theatre in Johannesburg. In 1998 is haar werke weer gekies vir 'n uitstalling in die Marked Theatre. In dieselfde jaar was een van haar werke ten toon gestel in die finale uitstalling van die Volkskas Atelier Kompetisie. THE BIRDS, written and directed by Pierre Perold, music by Pieter Swann and Choreographed by Manuela de Gouveia. What happens when man has had enough of the strife and toil here on earth? What happens if he wants to go and stay with the birds? What if his wish is granted? In this playful look at man and his problems, Pierre Perold rewrote the classical Greek comedy by Aristophanes and gave it a South African flavour. This spectacular of song, dance, drama and art is not to be missed. Presented on 27 & 28 April 19:00 in the David Ross Hall of the Lady Grey Arts Academy. (LG Youth Arts Festival Program 2001)
