This Tree began as an effort by me to learn a little about my Icelandic Heritage. The only thing that I knew about my paternal great-grandparents was that they came to Canada during the hard times in Iceland in 1884. Their names were Jón Ólafsson and Margrét Þorbjörnsdóttir and they left Iceland in 1884 aboard the SS Camoens with their one year old son Guðmunder Jón Jónsson. Guðmunder was my grandfather and when and why his named was changed to Olafsson on arriving in Canada I have not been able to learn. I can remember when I was a small boy the rather large picture of a church in Vestmannyjar he had in his home and he told us that he was " baptized in that Church".
I would like to thank all of the wonderful "Internet" people in Iceland and Canada for helping me to put together all the information I did get on my Icelandic family. Their help is
acknowledged and very gratefully appreciated!
My maternal grandparents were from Lincoln County in the UK. They emigrated to Anawan, Illinois, USA sometime between 1909 and 1912. My mother was born in Anawan on the 30th day of July in 1912. I know there was family left in England, (my mother received an inheritance from some Aunt in the 1960's) but no member would tell "how", "why" or "when" they left England so by publishing this tree I hope that somewhere there is someone who will be able to put a link to this part of my family. My maternal grandparents were John William Horwood 1887-1965 and Harriet Spencer-Bullock 1888 1973. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
This page will be updated on a continual basis as I get new information on births anddeaths, please feel free to e-mail me with or for any information, I will reply to all.
