He married (1) Alvena E. Thurm on November 23, 1904 in Whiteside County, IL. He married (2) Lela Rebecca Thurlow on June 18, 1923 in Port Huron, St. Clair County, MI.

Ernest died of a Brain tumor.

Ernest was in the army stationed near the Mexican border. He
got involved with a Mexican girl. The girl's family was intent
on killing him so he decerted the army and fled to Canada. He
met Lela Thurlow while in Canada. His first wife had a
daughter. She was last known to be living in the Toledo, Ohio
area.
